The Carabao Cup final on April 25 could now be played in front of spectators after the EFL pushed for the event to be included in a schedule of test events for the return of fans.
The first major trophy of the English domestic season, which will be contested by Manchester City and Tottenham, was initially excluded from the list of pilot events, but the league’s chairman Rick Parry has campaigned for its inclusion.
The FA Cup semi-final on the weekend of April 17 is also on the list and reportedly bearing fruit.
Last week, Parry expressed his desire to see some supporters at the Carabao Cup final. Telling Sky Sports it is ‘’the pinnacle of the season and a really important event’’.
As it is now being considered alongside the FA Cup semi-final and FA Cup final according to reports. The decision on how many fans can attend will be set by scientists and government officials, with only people who live close to Wembley being considered.
Understandably, sources expect the numbers to be very small at first and the FA Cup semi-final may not have more than 5,000 people present at Wembley stadium.
The test events are intended to enable capacity crowds to return to events this summer, after a full year of sporting events going on in empty arenas.
