Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski will miss Poland’s visit to England on Wednesday due to a knee injury.

Both sides clash at Wembley in a Group I World Cup Qualifier and the visitors have been significantly weakened.

The 32-year-old went off in Poland’s 3-0 win over Andorra on Sunday after scoring twice.

A statement from the Polish FA confirmed their captain had sustained knee ligament damage and would be out for up to 10 days. The 2020 Best FIFA Men’s Player award winner has now returned to Germany.

England lead their World Cup Qualifying Group having won their first two games, two points ahead of joint-second Poland.

The Poles will have to make do without their talismanic forward who has scored 35 goals in only 25 Bundesliga games.

The leading goalscorer in Europe, Lewandowski will also miss Bayern’s weekend trip to Leipzig as the significant blow extends to the Bavarians who have benefitted 42 goals in just 36 games in all competitions this season.
