Football has drawn to a close for 2018.
It was an unforgettable year for Manchester City after winning the Premier league title whilst tumbling several records along the way.

Liverpool certainly had a better end to the year and top spot going into 2019 is much-deserved following what has been an exceptional year of marked progress.

The Premier league title race took a pulsating run into the new year with Manchester City being knocked off top spot to be replaced by Liverpool who have gone from strength to strength since the start of the season, remaining unbeaten and ending 2018 in emphatic fashion with that 5-1 win over Arsenal.

Tottenham Hotspur took second spot and looked set to make a decent case for their title credentials following City’s blip but were unnerved by a rampant Wolves 3-1 at Wembley. They have duly returned to 3rd spot following City’s win over Southampton.

City’s wobble has been in the midst of an injury crisis as Key men Fernandinho, Sergio Aguero and David Silva were recently sidelined during the hectic festive schedule all in a season they have had arguably their most important player in Kevin De Bruyne (who is a doubt for the next game), more on the treatment table than on the pitch.

City would look to get their stars match fit and add some rhythm in the team in a bid to knock The Reds off their perch and what better way to start 2019 with a warning to Liverpool and the rest of the league than their clash with the league leaders on Thursday?

It’s a clash set to thrill between the best attacking sides in England and could really go either way. I’m not keen for it to end neither way though, like the 0-0 draw earlier in the season.
It is a spectacular way to kick off the year and a win for either team would be a huge statement to the rest of the league (who could only draw out the popcorns for this one) as both teams are playing on a level of their own this season.

On a personal note, 2018 has been a positive year and special appreciation to all Football Castle readers. Here’s to more milestones in 2019 and of course, Joy that only football brings.

See you next year!
