We are finally at the 38th and final gameweek of the 2020-21 season and that can only mean crunch time for those managers looking for a final climb up their mini leagues. With all games kicking off at the same time on Sunday, it is FPL squeaky bum time.
Three sides will still be in contention for the final two top-four places on the final day, while teams like Leeds and Newcastle have also delivered with no pressure on them. Meaning strong and motivated players are available to managers for Gameweek 38.
The final Fantasy Premier League deadline of the season is at 14:30 BST on Sunday 23 April 2021. With that in mind, Football Castle also delivers our final FPL tips for the season including Captain picks for GW38.
Goalkeepers
Martin Dubravka(£4.8m) is a top pick ahead of Newcastle’s visit to Fulham considering the Cottagers have failed to find the net in three of their last four home matches. The Magpies shot-stopper has registered 18 points in his last five game weeks.
Emi Martinez(£5.4 m)
A clean sheet would see the Argentine break the record for most FPL points scored by a goalkeeper in a single Premier League season. While it is a herculean task against Chelsea, Martinez’s impressive FPL season means points are certainly on the cards.
Additionally, Chelsea are wasteful merchants nevertheless which should naturally secure saves bonus points for Martinez.
Defenders
With few goalkeepers offering strong clean sheet potential in Gameweek 38, the same applies to defenders.
Trent Alexander-Arnold(£7.8m) is an obvious pick considering his three assists across the last six games is the most for defenders. The in-form right-back has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers in recent weeks, creating 21 chances in his last six matches, at least two more than any other Premier League player, and racking up 38 points.
The 22-year-old has one final opportunity against Palace to prove his worth to the England manager as he fights for a spot in the Euro 2020 squad.
Stuart Dallas(£5.5m)
Leeds go into their game against West Brom following consecutive clean sheets and Dallas’ advanced position increases the possibility of an attacking return.
The Northern Irishman could well add to his eight goals this season with a final day flourish against the relegated Baggies that could see him become the highest points-scoring FPL defender this season.
Midfielders
The form of Joe Willock(£4.8m) is looking sustainable as he scored his sixth goal in as many games against Sheffield. With relegated Fulham coming up on GW38, the 21-year-old might be ending with a bountiful return as he faces conversations over signing for the Magpies permanently.
Raphinha(£5.5m)
Had a great game in the first fixture against West Brom and got an assist in the recent win over Burnley. The Brazilian has registered 13 points in three matches since returning from injury and carries a threat from set-pieces and open play too.
Forwards
Chris Wood(£6.5m) is into double figures for Premier League goals for the fourth straight season. The New Zealander boasts 11 attacking returns in the last 10 game weeks, and takes on a relegated Sheffield side who have only kept three home clean sheets all season.
Michail Antonio(£6.6m)
Should have got more than his nine points in Gameweek 37, save for a third-minute penalty he won being missed by Declan Rice.
Antonio looks set for a big haul in GW38 against Southampton who are already on holidays mentally whilst the Hammers look to seal sixth and its European spot.
Leeds are facing the team who have conceded the most goals this season(73) and Patrick Bamford(£6.6m) would be keen to welcome the fans back to Elland Road with goals having ended another mini-draught in recent weeks. Bamford makes up the perfect Leeds triple-up in your squad with his 16 goals and eight assists this season.
Kelechi Iheanacho(£6.2m) and Harry Kane(£11.9m) will face off in what is set to be an open game as Leicester look for the win that will secure top four while Spurs are in with a chance at the Europa League. The Tottenham striker is tied with Mo Salah on 22 goals for the Golden Boot award and he will be confident of improving his 16 goals and two assists in 15 meetings with the Foxes.
To whet the appetite, the last final-day game between these two in 2018 ended 5-4 to Spurs and both strikers found the net.
Captaincy
Tottenham and Liverpool are locked in various battles for Europe on the final day, whereas their marksmen, Mo Salah(£12.9m) and Kane are also in their individual battle for silverware.
Both players are tied on 22 goals with one game remaining and they will both be popular captaincy choices for the final game week of the campaign. The Egyptian has some record against Crystal Palace with six goals and four assists in eight games against the Eagles, he netted a brace and an assist in the 7-0 away drubbing earlier this season and would be keen to win his third top scorer award.
While Kane’s record of six goals and an assist in two final day games against Leicester makes for pleasurable reading. Bamford also has a massive shout against West Brom if you’re looking out for a differential captain.
That’s it for our final Fantasy Premier League tips for the season. Wish you a wonderful summer and a successful campaign next season. See you in 2021-22!
